Police Seek 2 After Man Killed At Townhome

Witnesses See Suspects Leave In Van

A man was killed and two people were being sought after an apparent robbery and shooting at a townhome Wednesday evening.

Cumberland police were called to Arbors of Cumberland just after 6 p.m. Officers found the victim, Andrew Rhea, 19, suffering from gunshot wounds to the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that they heard a disturbance between at least one suspect and the victim before hearing a gunshot.

Police said two or three men quickly fled the scene after the shooting in a white Chevrolet Astro van with a blue stripe.

"We have had a lot of support from the community," said Cumberland police Capt. Roger Waggoner. "A lot of people didn't hear a gunshot, but they did see a van leave quickly."

Investigators think the men also stole a television from the victim's apartment. Rhea lived in the apartment with his father, who was home at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to the townhome.

"We do believe that it wasn't necessarily a random act," Waggoner said. "We're trying to tie in to see if there's any connection with the actual victim."

The shooting marked Cumberland's first in 10 years. Investigators asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
