A man wanted in connection with a beating and stabbing in Shelby County was shot and killed by police Friday night.

Deputies were called to a home on County Road 1800 West and County Road 850 South in southern Shelby County just after 6:30 p.m. on a report of two people attacked, said state police Sgt. Anthony Emery.

They found Rachel L. Shaver, 33, severely beaten and Jerry W. Dillon, 37, beaten and stabbed. Shaver told police that the man who attacked them had run southbound.

Deputies found Roger S. Jones Jr., 36, of Indianapolis, sitting outside a nearby barn holding a knife, Emery said. As they approached him, he threatened the deputies, who then shot and killed the man.

"The suspect stood to his feet, looked at the officers. They continued to give verbal commands for him to drop the weapon. The suspect then advanced towards the two officers," Embry said. "He continued to advance on the officers and they did use deadly force on the suspect."

Shaver and Dillon were transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Their conditions were not released Friday night.

Emery said the three did know each other.
