Police: Suspect Was Stabbed By Man He Killed

A tip helped lead police to a man accused of killing a 19-year-old in an apparent robbery attempt.

Craig Harris, 20, was arrested near 38th Street and Emerson Avenue in Indianapolis on Tuesday in connection with the March 11 shooting death of Andrew Rhea, said Cumberland police Capt. Roger Waggoner.

Police released Harris' picture and description to the media last week, saying that he likely had several stab wounds suffered during a scuffle with Rhea. Waggoner said a tip came in to Crime Stoppers a short time later.

Witnesses told police that they heard a disturbance between at least one person and Rhea in his Cumberland townhome before hearing a gunshot. Police said two or three men quickly fled the scene after the shooting in a white Chevrolet Astro van with a blue stripe.

Waggoner said investigators were still looking for two men.

Harris was also wanted on charges of domestic battery and criminal confinement out of Marion County and on suspicion of violating probation in Nevada, Waggoner said.

He was being treated Tuesday for the stab wounds.

Investigators said the two men likely knew each other.

Rhea's slaying was the first in the town of Cumberland in 10 years.
