INDIANAPOLIS -- Drivers who get speeding tickets in Marion County now have to wait several weeks before they learn what they owe and are able to pay.Police officers are no longer writing the amount of the fine on the ticket during traffic stops, Call 6's Rafael Sanchez reported. It's part of a new policy crafted by safety court Judge William Young, whose staff told Call 6 on Wednesday that the new guidelines are intended to accommodate changing ticket prices. It now takes 23 days on average for a fine amount to be attached to a ticket. The delay is frustrating drivers who just want to pay and be done with it.Claudia DeCoursey was pulled over March 9 near Pike High School, where an officer told her she was going 44 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour school zone. She said she has been calling for weeks to try and pay her ticket."I could of had it paid already if I knew how much it was," she said. "You'd think they'd want to get it in a hurry."DeCoursey has until May 9 to pay her ticket, but may not learn the amount until next month. The portable electronic ticket devices used by Indiana State Police and Speedway police allow the court to process tickets within 10 days.
