INDIANAPOLIS -- A massive hotel complex under construction downtown is moving along on budget and on schedule, developers said Friday.Reporters were given a hard hat tour of the JW Marriott complex, which will have 1,626 rooms, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.A skywalk will connect the hotels, which will include a JW Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Inn and Suites and SpringHill Suites. The flagship hotel of the Marriott Place Indianapolis will comprise of 34 floors. A glass curtain wall is already being erected.Officials said Indianapolis was in desperate need of hotel capacity, largely because of the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center."Outside of a handful of cities between the two coasts of our country, there just aren't that many places that can handle large-scale conventions and large-scale special events," said Cory Chambers, of Marriott. "Indianapolis is now within that small, select group."Hotel officials said they are already booking rooms three to five years out. Some of the rooms will be ready for occupancy in time for the Final Four next year, with the all of the rooms ready by early 2011.
