INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis' largest scrap metal dealer is facing a criminal investigation, a civil suit from the city and now new accusations that it was never properly licensed.OmniSource Recycling has been at the center of a criminal investigation since February, when investigators seized business records, scrap metal and a substantial amount of cash from the Indianapolis-based company.Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said Friday that his office is also pursing civil charges against the business, seeking monetary damages, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported."Because of the allegations, and actually, the documented evidence we have about stolen scrap metal being taken into their facility, that it is costing taxpayers a serious amount of money," Brizzi said. The company had been instrumental in helping the city draft an ordinance to regulate scrap metal dealers. But the Department of Metropolitan Development said Friday that records show OmniSource itself never obtained a scrap dealer's license.City officials will meet with company officials Monday to discuss the licensing issue.Brizzi said his office hopes to have its investigation into OmniSource wrapped up in the next 60 to 90 days.
