LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- More than 2,000 Hoosiers gathered on the Statehouse lawn Wednesday afternoon for a so-called "tea party" protest in conjunction with hundreds of similar protests all over the country.Protesters said they are fed up with what they consider to be excessive government spending.Earlier in the day, dozens gathered in Lafayette to threw tea bags from the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge into the Wabash River below, mimicking the Boston Tea Party in 1773.Tea parties were scheduled in more than 600 cities nationwide on April 15, tax deadline day."We're just here to tell Congress to stop all the spending. Repeal the so-called stimulus packages and get back to the Constitution of the United States of America, or in 2010, we're going to find them new jobs," said Richard Behney, organizer of the Indianapolis tea party.
