Police and volunteers are searching for a missing Indiana State University student from Avon.

Gerald Smith, 22, was reported missing on Friday. A university news release said Smith was last seen at about 1 a.m. Friday near Ninth and Chestnut streets in Terre Haute.

The university's public safety director told the student newspaper that police don't have any reason to suspect foul play.

Police are treating Smith's disappearance as a missing persons case.

Searches took place on campus on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, including an area near the Wabash River.

"I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who is assisting with the search," said ISU President Daniel Bradley.

Smith, a senior at Indiana State, is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, jeans and brown shoes.

Police asked anyone with information to call 812-237-5555. Counseling is being provided to students in need of support, school officials said.
