'Most Wanted' Fugitive Arrested In Indiana After 10-Year Search

Motor Carrier Inspector's Persistence Leads To LeMasters' Arrest

One of the country's most wanted fugitives who had been missing for 10 years was arrested in southern Indiana early Wednesday morning thanks to a motor carrier inspector's persistence.

Michael Dwayne LeMasters, 44, who was being sought on 64 criminal counts ranging from incest and sexual abuse to felony assault, was found riding in a tractor-trailer from Florida.

Indiana State Police said Inspector Mary Eglen was working at the northbound weigh scales on Interstate 65 in Seymour Wednesday morning when she noticed something peculiar.

Eglen asked the driver of a tractor-trailer to pull into a back lot for a routine check of his paperwork.

Eglen said she saw a second man in the vehicle. When she asked the driver about the man, he told her that the man was just a friend who was authorized to ride along with him, but the driver had no paperwork that indicated his company authorized passengers, police said.

When she asked if the passenger had any identification, Eglen said she was told it had been stolen.

Police were called to verify the man's identity. ISP said he purposefully transposed some digits in his Social Security number, but they determined that the man was LeMasters.

According to the "America's Most Wanted" Web site, LeMasters was being sought for numerous sex crimes against girls that occurred over a 14-year period in Oregon and California. He will be extradited to Oregon.
