Jason Fishburn's Road To Recovery Takes Big Step

An Indianapolis police officer who has been through a long, arduous recovery after he was shot in the line of duty last year is returning to work Monday on a very limited basis.

Officer Jason Fishburn was shot in the head in July 2008 as he pursued a man who was charged with murder in another case. He was given little chance of survival, and many consider his recovery miraculous.

Officials said it will take a while to determine what Fishburn's capabilities are, but said reintroducing him to a work environment is an important step in his rehabilitation.

Fishburn is expected to work four hours a day four days a week.

In an interview with 6News in January, Fishburn and his wife, Tonya, expressed their gratitude to the many people who helped the officer in the aftermath of the shooting.
