A Franklin Township school bus driver charged with being drunk while children were on board was sentenced Thursday after reaching a plea deal.

Phillip Leslie, 48, was arrested March 3 after students said he had driven on the wrong side of the road, stopped at the same houses several times and struck at least one mailbox as he drove Kitley Intermediate School students home.

Leslie pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of criminal recklessness and one felony count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a minor. He was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to undergo inpatient alcohol treatment.

He will also have his license suspended for 291 days.

The supervisor of transportation for the Franklin Township school system, Susan Fields, resigned in the wake of Leslie's arrest, after it was revealed that she had received two prior reports of Leslie coming to work with an alcohol odor on his breath.
