ATTICA, Ind. -- State and local police are investigating at least three Attica High School basketball players on accusations that they hazed other students, RTV6's Sy Jenkins reported.
The three were suspended from school last week. Fountain County Prosecutor Mark McGrady said the alleged hazing activities weren't just horseplay, but he wouldn't release details.
"We know we need to look into it, and we'll decide -- when we get all the information that we're going to get -- whether it is, in fact, a criminal case," McGrady (pictured, right) said Thursday.
At least two of the suspended athletes were members of the Attica team that won the boys' Class 1A state basketball title in 2001, Jenkins reported.Officials said 15 students -- some of them alleged victims, and others witnesses -- gave school authorities written statements about incidents that allegedly occurred since the start of the basketball season.Police interviewed at least some of the 15 ThursdayRick White, a parent of a former athlete at the school, said he believes humiliating hazing activities have taken place there for the past five years."Two and three years ago, there were a couple of boys who held kids down while they puked on them," White said.White also said he has heard of incidents in which athletes urinated on other athletes.McGrady said he didn't know how long the investigation would take. He said the alleged incidents could prompt charges of criminal recklessness or hazing.Information on the length of the suspensions were not immediately available.
