EDINBURGH, Ind. -- A husband and father of four who has been missing for more than a week was last seen in Bartholomew County, prompting a search for him that grows more mysterious by the day.Stephen Flood, 46, of Bolingbrook, Ill., checked into a Hampton Inn in Edinburgh last week, and police think his disappearance could be linked to a crime, 6News' Renee Jameson reported."Unfortunately, we don't have as much information as we'd like to have at this point," said Bartholomew County sheriff's Lt. Rob Kittle.Bartholomew County authorities were contacted by the Bolingbrook Police Department late last week.Flood was seen on surveillance camera checking into the Edinburgh hotel on June 3.Police said that they don't know of anyone who saw him leave, but his room was near an exit and there are no cameras there.Illinois detectives said Flood, who was in Indiana on business, talked with his wife on the evening that he checked into the hotel. In a strange twist, Flood's wife was awakened by someone who was hitting her in the head with a hard object later the same night. She screamed and the man ran away.Police think Flood's disappearance and the attack on his wife may be connected."We're treating both incidents as related, even though we can't tie them together," said Bolingbrook police Lt. Ken Teppel. "The same investigative team is working on both cases."Flood's laptop computer, cell phone and luggage were found in his hotel room, but there was no sign of the vehicle police think he was driving -- a black 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck. The family van, a silver Kia Sedona, is also missing."It appears there was nothing unordinary in the room," Teppel said. "There were no signs of a struggle.""He never gave me the impression of any kind of trouble or anything," said Paul Wallen, who knows Flood. "He was all smiles when he was here -- helpful."
