INDIANAPOLIS -- Homeowners on the dividing line between Indianapolis and Beech Grove are stuck in the middle of a dispute between the two cities.Residents living along what is called Perkins Avenue in Indianapolis and 25th Avenue in Beech Grove contacted Call 6's Rafael Sanchez after their requests for road repairs went unanswered."Anytime I call Beech Grove for any assistance, they advise me I live in Indianapolis," said resident Melodye Hall.
"But when I call Indianapolis they say, 'Nope, you live in Beech Grove, it's Beech Grove's property," said neighbor Tamara Bowser. Both Hall and Bower were upset about several pot holes lining the street."I'd like to know where my tax dollars are going because it's obviously not going to road repairs," Hall said. "They just want to pass the buck and nobody wants to take care of the problem."After Call 6 contacted Indianapolis officials, city crews came out to repair the road, a huge relief for Hall and Bower. But the neighbors' joy may be short-lived. Indianapolis officials have since informed Call 6 that, after reviewing state maps, the road does belong to Beech Grove and that they will no longer be providing services for the area. Both cities said they will work to devise a plan to handle trash pickup and other services.
