Police: School Board Member Used Cruiser In Confrontation

Police: Adam Goldstein Was Drunk In Police Uniform

A Lawrence Township school board member and reserve police officer in training faces criminal charges after he became upset when his wife was cited in a boating incident on Geist Reservoir, police said.

A Department of Natural Resources officer cited the wife of Adam Goldstein, 39, late Saturday night for a headlight violation.

Police said Goldstein, enraged by the citation, returned home to put on a police uniform and then went to the Fortville police station to get a police car before he returned to the marina at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday to confront Conservation Officer Dave Dungan, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

Fortville police Marshal Ben Kiphart said Goldstein had been training to be a reserve officer for about three months but hadn't been put on the street and wasn't authorized to use a department vehicle in official business.

Police said Goldstein's blood-alcohol content was 0.17 about 90 minutes after his arrest. He was released later Sunday morning.

Kiphart said he terminated Goldstein from his police position the same morning, when he was called to the marina to retrieve the police car.

"We're up front with everybody, to be quite frank. He's the one, it was his fault. He did it. He did it to himself," he said. "So we're going to go through everything we can with him."

Goldstein was arrested on a public intoxication charge, but Kiphart said authorities plan to pursue charges of operating while intoxicated, official misconduct, obstruction of justice and unauthorized use of a police vehicle.

Goldstein is scheduled to make a court appearance on July 15.
