Two Bunker Hill officers were injured late Friday after their car went off the road and struck a tree in Miami County, officials said.

Just before midnight, Miami County sheriff’s deputies said they were called to Bunker Hill Road near County Road 650 South on reports of a single-vehicle crash.

When the deputies arrived, they found a Dodge Charger that had struck a tree.

Investigators said Officer Shane Durham and Reserve Deputy Marshal Nathaniel Martin were riding in the Charger before Durham lost control while rounding a curve.

Police said the car caught fire, and Durham and Martin were trapped inside for a short time.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and rescue the officers from the car.

Durham and Martin were rushed to Dukes Hospital in Peru, and then flown via medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.

Investigators did not release the officers’ medical condition.
