Police Friday evening found the car involved in a hit-and-run crash in which the driver plowed into a man who was pushing a stroller, leaving a 6-month-old girl gravely injured.

The crash happened at about 2:35 a.m. Friday on 21st Street at Bridgton Drive, which does not have sidewalks, on the city's far east side. The car was found late Friday afternoon near 10th Street and Franklin Road, police said.

Audio: Hit-And-Run 911 Call

"Based on information we were able to get put out earlier in the day, we did have an anonymous caller call in with information on someone he though may have this car that may have been involved," said Sgt. Matthew Mount.

Mount said Michael Stinson, 18, was pushing a stroller in which Adrianne Marlette rode along a two-lane street after leaving a nearby convenience store.

The girl's mother, Nicole Wade, 19, told police that the car struck Stinson and Marlette from behind, causing severe head injuries to Marlette and less serious injuries to Stinson.

"Boom, it sounded like something had exploded. That's what made me jump up. It sounded like it was right here," said witness Vanessa Slaughter.

Wade was distraught in a seven-minute call to 911 as she described what had happened and desperately pleaded for help to arrive quickly.

"(She saw) her boyfriend and the stroller flying," Mount said. "Her first concern is immediately … finding out what was wrong with the baby. At first, she didn't think she was breathing."

Marlette was initially taken to Community East Hospital and was later transported to Riley Hospital for Children, where her condition was described as extremely critical late Friday morning.

Stinson, who suffered scrapes and bruises, was treated and released, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

Police were questioning who they called individuals of interest in hopes of learning who was driving the car at the time, but no arrests had been made as of Saturday morning.

Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
