Evidence Found That Helps Bones Investigation

Investigators Won't Reveal What Was Found

Searchers found important evidence Tuesday that may help to determine how a person died whose bones were found in a wooded area in Morgan County Sunday.

A team of anthropologists from the University of Indianapolis has been sifting through the area since Monday with metal detectors and other equipment, RTV6's Ben Morriston reported.

"I can tell you that some personal effects have been found, but I can't reveal what those were because they are specific to the investigation at this time," Indiana State Police 1st Sgt. David Bursten said.

The families of two missing women -- Brookley Louks of Greenwood, who disappeared last June, and Lola Frye, also of Greenwood, who disappeared in 1993 -- have been at the crime scene awaiting word on the identity of the victim.

"We may have another murder case on our hands, and if so we'll deal with it. We've done this before and the sad part is the unanswered questions," Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega said.

Anthropologists are trying to determine the sex of the person found Sunday, their identity and how the person probably died, Morriston reported.

"We'll be looking at known records of missing persons and comparing that to the very good dental samples we have of the lower jaw that was located," Bursten said.

If the remains match with a known missing person, experts might take a week to 10 days to identify the remains. Otherwise, it may take longer, Morriston reported.
