GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood mother whose 4-year-old son is in a coma after police said her boyfriend beat him is in jail herself, accused of strangling her daughter.

Jessica Arrowood, 27, was arrested on charges of battery, strangulation and neglect of a dependent.

Greenwood police said she choked her 5-year-old daughter on at least two occasions.

Arrowood's boyfriend, Jesse Pacheco, 27, was arrested last week on charges of battery and neglect of a dependent. Police said he slammed the woman's 4-year-old son's head into the floor.

"The investigation into the injuries of the 4-year-old led to the injuries of the 5-year-old, and that led to the charges against the mother," said Johnson County Prosecutor Bradley Cooper.

In a probable cause affidavit, the girl told police that Arrowood choked her at home. Cooper said the couple beat the children instead of each other.

"When the boyfriend was mad at the mother, he took it out on the 4-year-old, and when the mother was mad at the boyfriend, she was taking it out on the 5-year-old," Cooper said.

Neighbor Larry Alvey said he knew from police visits and arguing that there was trouble in the house, but he couldn't imagine what the couple is accused of.

"They all seemed to be pretty happy. I think it's terrible," he said. "Here it is across the street from my house, and that 4-year-old boy might die."
