Police Nab Men Suspected In String Of Burglaries

Police: Men Broke Into 7 Homes In 2 Days

Indianapolis police on Wednesday arrested two men suspected in a string of burglaries in an area hit hard by similar crimes.

Calvin Kinney and Tyrone Esters, both 21, broke into at least seven homes in the past two days on the city's north side, police told 6News' Jack Rinehart.

Officers apprehended the men after witnesses said they saw a suspicious vehicle in the area of two burglaries in the 6000 block of Winnpenny Lane.

Kinney, who was wearing a court-issued ankle bracelet at the time of his arrest, was wanted on suspicion of violating his probation stemming from a previous burglary conviction, police said.

Investigators said that they identified Esters' shoe prints from doors kicked in at Wednesday's two burglaries, along with a break-in Tuesday morning in the East Avalon neighborhood, where burglars hit five homes in less than three hours.

Police said most of the crimes are committed by young men and teens, many of whom should be in school.

"Some do skip school on a lunch break or a free period, go out, do a burglary, come back to school, and go back to class like nothing's happened," said Officer Tony Priami.

Some neighbors in the area said they will try to be more vigilant.

"They know who belongs there, and this is important. So we're trying to be more vigilant," one man said.

Burglaries in the north police district of the city have increased more than 10 percent over this time last year, with nearly 2,500 home break-ins reported since the beginning of the year.
