A former Indianapolis police officer convicted of federal drug possession and conspiracy charges was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison.

Robert B. Long, 35, was found guilty in June of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute 50 kilograms of marijuana, three counts of possession with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of marijuana and attempt to possess with intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of marijuana.

The FBI tracked Long, along with former officers Jason Edwards, 38 and James Davis, 34, as they used false search warrants or broke into homes to gain access to drugs and cash.

Davis, who took a plea deal in the case, was given the minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. Edwards will be sentenced next week.

Kabec Higgins, a civilian acquaintance of the men, was accused of distributing marijuana for the officers. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 kilograms of marijuana and was sentenced to just more than a year in prison.
