INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Supreme Court's Disciplinary Commission has filed a complaint against Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi for his public statements about two cases, including a 2006 Indianapolis home invasion in which three children and four adults were killed. The commission accuses Brizzi of making improper comments about two defendants facing seven counts of murder and about an Illinois trucker suspected of killing an Indianapolis woman. They allege Brizzi released information to the media that did not serve a legitimate law enforcement purpose, and that would taint public opinion of the defendants.Of the trucker, Bruce Mendenhall, Brizzi said "It's almost as if he wanted to get caught and then play a game of, 'I'm smarter than the police.'"He also described the crime scene in extensive detail that members of the commission said were not necessary. In the seven killed case, the complaint alleges Brizzi was out of line when he spoke to the state of mind of the two defendants."They weren't going to let anyone or anything get in the way of what they believed to be an easy score," Brizzi said at the time when it was believed that there were drugs in the home. The commission said in its complaint that such comments could prejudice a case. With the trial of the suspected gunman in the slain family case, Desmond Turner, set to begin next week, Brizzi said he would not comment until the proceedings were over."It is clear from the complaint that my passionate statements regarding this case may have put me in a bit of a pickle. Prudence dictates that I reserve further comment until the trial is over," he said in a statement. The Supreme Court can issue sanctions ranging from a private reprimand to disbarment.More Information: Disciplinary Commission Complaint Against Prosecutor Carl Brizzi
