INDIANAPOLIS -- The family of an Indianapolis man is still looking for answers in the hit-and-run crash that left him in a coma.Nic Nihiser, 28, an avid bicyclist, was struck from behind near Delaware and Walnut streets early Sept. 19 while riding home from a friend's house, 6News' Tanya Spencer reported.Nihiser was thrown from his bike into the street and suffered a fracture back, neck and massive head injuries. Doctors said the extent of his brain injuries is still not known.
"I want him to know us, I want him to talk and really I just want a hug from him," said Nihiser's sister, Jill Jenkins. "I just want to be able to hug my brother again, and just tell him that I love him.Family and friends gathered Saturday night for a dinner fundraiser and raffle that helped raise nearly $10,000 for Nihiser's long-term care. They said they also hope more exposure might help someone remember something about the crash."It could possibly be an accident. We just want closure. We just want to know what happened," Jenkins said."It is just so frustrating. You know, you would think somebody would come forward," said friend Tabatha Hamilton. "I personally couldn't live with that on my conscience."Police said the car that struck Nihiser was a 2004 to 2008 dark Chevy Malibu with tinted windows. It would likely have front, passenger-side damage from the crash.Anyone with any information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
