Police Chief Suspended For Insubordination

Danny Baker Says He Plans To Appeal

The police chief in Knightstown has been suspended without pay after he refused to release the findings of an internal investigation into a woman's death.

The Knightstown Town Council voted 3-2 Thursday night to suspend Chief Danny Baker for five days for insubordination, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

Council member Terry Guerin, who introduced the motion for Baker's suspension, said the chief ignored repeated requests to release results to local media outlets of an internal investigation into the death of a Knightstown woman.

"When he refused, and made comments that he should not have made to an employer, that resulted in his disciplinary action," Guerin said.

Baker said the report made no recommendation about disciplinary action against any of his officers, and that he was merely following the advice given to him by other council members.

"I did what I thought was right," he said. "(The report) was supposed to stay in the building."

Baker said he wasn't sure when he will begin serving his suspension. He said he plans to appeal.
