Scammers Pose As Police Fundraisers

ISP Issues Scam Alert

POSTED: 12:52 pm EDT October 26, 2009

Indiana State Police issued a warning Monday about a couple of scammers who hit up residents in Wabash County for "charity" money.

ISP Sgt. Tony Slocum said two men initially made phone calls and then went door-to-door to collect cash.

The scammers, a 45- to 50-year-old white man with glasses and a younger man, began their ploy on Oct. 22, police said.

Slocum said the men were seen in a small, dark gray or black Toyota sedan with a tow bar attachment on the front and a Kentucky license plate.

The men showed Kentucky driver's licenses when asked for identification and said they were associated with ISP, Slocum said.

Indiana State Police doesn't solicit door-to-door. Investigators asked anyone with information to call 800-382-0689.
