CARMEL, Ind. -- A passer-by pulled a woman from her sinking car that plunged into a retention pond Monday morning. The incident happened just off Michigan Road, north of 106th Street, just after 10 a.m.Slideshow: Water RescueInformation about the woman's condition wasn't immediately available.Police said that the woman was alone in the car and that a man identified only as Fred jumped into the water and tried to break out a window or open a door. When he wasn't able to get the door or window open, Fred went back to shore and grabbed a large rock, bashed out a window and pulled the woman out."It was great that they were able to pay attention and get down in there right away," said Carmel fire Marshal Bruce Knott. "The water's cold, so he was taking a big chance on his part, but we're very glad that he did."A set of tire tracks led to the pond from a road nearby. The back of the car was visible from Skycam 6 before it was pulled from the pond.Watch 6News and refresh this page for updates.
