More Quirky Laws Prompt 'Are You Kidding Me?' Reaction

Archaic Laws Still On Books In Indiana

Did you know it's illegal to catch a fish with your bare hands in Indiana, or that Indianapolis law mandates a speed limit on horses?

Archaic laws that are on the books in the state raise eyebrows, puzzled looks and "Are you kidding me?" questions.

Last week, 6News' Dan Spehler scratched the surface of some of Indiana's baffling laws.

"Maybe they don't get enforced, so nobody gets in trouble," said one woman, while a man joked that the laws "seemed quite fishy" to him.

"I could see the horse law back in the old days, when everybody did ride horses," one person said. "It was relevant then."

Indianapolis law requires people not to ride horses down streets any faster than 10 mph.

Another quirky Indianapolis law makes it illegal to throw a stone at a bird, unless in self-defense.

"I want to know what inspired that bird law," said Brian Heitzman. "Was there a really mad pigeon one day?"

Specifically, the law deems it "unlawful for any person to throw any stone or other missile at any bird or any animal, except in self-defense."

Mayor Greg Ballard will be on 6News' "Good Morning Indiana" Thursday at 6 a.m. to discuss the laws and other issues.
