Fines Levied In Construction Worker's Death

INDIANAPOLIS -- The state has fined four companies in connection with the death of a construction worker at the Indiana Convention Center expansion site.According to a release from the attorney of the family of Stanley Roberts, 55, who was killed in June when he 50 feet from a mechanical lift, the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration has finished its investigation.Ermco Electric, FA Wilhelm and Far West Construction Inc. were fined for not adequately marking or covering the excavation area, while Roberts' employer, Harmon Steel, was fined for failing to provide a warning system to prevent the lift to be allowed in the area, according to the release.
The fines totaled $31,000."We applaud IOSHA for their thorough investigation and resolve to hold those contractors accountable, not only to complete the project on time, but to also protect the lives of Indiana construction workers," attorney John Daly said in the statement.Roberts was a longtime ironworker.
