INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Indianapolis Public Schools high school students were arrested this week, accused of bringing guns to school.On Thursday, an Arsenal Technical High School sophomore was found to be carrying a loaded handgun after he was searched by campus police, said IPS spokeswoman Mary Louise Bewley.The 16-year-old boy was arrested and preliminarily charged with carrying a handgun without a license, possessing a firearm on school property and dangerous possession of a firearm for carrying a loaded handgun on IPS property.
"This arrest should send a message to students that carrying a handgun on campus is a one-way ticket to jail," said Principal Sarah Bogard. "We won't tolerate any activity that will put students, staff or visitors at risk."The day before, a 15-year-old freshman at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School was arrested after police said he was showing off an unloaded gun to students.He was preliminarily charged with carrying a handgun without a license and possessing a firearm on school property.Both students were suspended pending expulsion.
