Referendum Will Raise Property Taxes

FISHERS, Ind. -- A school referendum in the Hamilton Southeastern district passed by a large margin on Tuesday.The vote was 8,309 yes to 1,838 no with all precincts reporting just before 8:30 p.m. The district reported 18 percent voter turnout.The referendum will increase property taxes to help the district avoid major budget cuts. The school system will get more than $38 million in property taxes over the next seven years.Last week, Marion County voters rejected school referenda in Perry and Franklin Township, while a Beech Grove referendum was approved.
