The driver of a tractor-trailer has been cited in an afternoon crash that tied up traffic in downtown Indianapolis.

The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 65 northbound just south of Market Street, halfway between the north and south splits, police said.

State police said Steven Lembke, 44, of Clarksville, Minn., was pulling an empty container trailer when the container struck the Fletcher Street overpass and separated from the trailer.

Larry Anderhoff, 48, of Lincoln Park, Mich., who was hauling new cars behind Lembke, swerved to miss the container in the roadway, and struck the west side of the overpass before running off the highway.

Three of the cars he was hauling became separated during the crash and also ended up in the roadway.

Anderhoff was trapped in his collapsed cab for nearly an hour before he was freed and transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

Lembke was cited for operating an over height vehicle. All lanes were reopened Thursday night.
