Police: Woman Confused Brake, Accelerator

KOKOMO, Ind. -- A moped driver was killed Sunday when the driver of an SUV confused the brake and gas pedals and slammed into the moped, police said.The wreck happened at 10:30 a.m. in an alley near the 1100 block of South Main Street.Kokomo police Lt. Don Whitehead said Janice Anthony, 63, of Kokomo, turned into an alley from Virginia Street and saw the moped."She told investigators she confused the accelerator for her brake pedal and struck the moped," Whitehead said.A witness told police that the moped appeared to be moving at high speed in the alley before the wreck.The driver of the moped, whose identity wasn't immediately released, wasn't wearing a helmet or protective gear and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
