Three students at Indianapolis' Emmerich Manual High School were arrested Friday after a teen brought a loaded handgun to school, police said.

Another student told a teacher that he had seen three boys take part in a drug deal on campus, said Indianapolis Public Schools spokeswoman Mary Louise Bewley.

When school police searched the teens, they said they found marijuana and a loaded handgun.

All three students were arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana.

The 17-year-old who police said was carrying the gun and tried to run from officers was also charged with carrying a handgun without a license on school property, escape and resisting law enforcement.

All three were suspended pending expulsion.
