INDIANAPOLIS -- A car plowed into an apartment early Monday morning on Indianapolis' northwest side, causing extensive damage to the building and a gas leak that prompted evacuations.The incident happened at the Abington apartments, near 47th Street and Georgetown Road, a little after 3:30 a.m., 6News' Julie Pursley reported.Slideshow: Car Plows Into Indianapolis Apartment
Two buildings were evacuated while crews plugged the gas leak, but residents were allowed back in after workers gave an all-clear.Valerie Haynes, who moved into an apartment last week, said she and her dog were asleep on the kitchen floor when the car came into the back of their home."Next thing you know, I heard a big bang, and I looked over and there was a car in my kitchen," Haynes said. "I jumped up and ran out the house."Police are looking for the car's driver. The vehicle has Mississippi plates.Haynes said she didn't get a good look at the driver because she was so startled.No one was injured.
