Indianapolis police and family members of a Village Pantry clerk who was killed in a weekend shooting at the store pleaded for more information in hopes that arrests can be made in an emotional news conference in front of the store.

Becky Hough, 62, was fatally shot at the Village Pantry at 1402 S. Meridian St. just after 5 a.m. Saturday.

Over the weekend, police released surveillance pictures of two men involved in the shooting. But police fear the pictures aren't good enough to result in arrests.

"We believe that individuals entered this store for the purpose of committing a robbery, that they took cigarettes in this robbery, and that some of those cigarettes have perhaps been distributed in the neighborhood," said Indianapolis Police Chief Michael Spears.

People who know Hough suspect the killers also knew her and that she may have recognized them as they robbed the store.

The men were described as white, between 18-24 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall with medium builds.

"Please step forward and tell us what you know," said Mark Renner, Marion County's acting public safety director. "This act was a very cowardice act. It was an evil act, and I know that the people of this community … do not want to hide behind anyone that committed such a cowardly, heinous act."

Police said Hough had worked at the store for 23 years and was well known in the community.

Hough's son, Timothy Rico, sobbed as police and others recounted what happened to his mother.

"Turn yourself in, and although I may not be able to forgive you myself, I hope God can forgive you for what you have done," Rico said. "You have taken the only parent I have left."

Investigators asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
