One of the men arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of a longtime Indianapolis convenience store clerk was released from prison just two days before the crime, police said.

Bruce Aldrich and Shawn Heyob, both 19, were arrested Monday after an extensive police search in the neighborhood, Indianapolis police Chief Michael Spears announced at a news conference Monday evening.

Becky Hough, 62, was fatally shot at the Village Pantry at 1402 S. Meridian St. just after 5 a.m. Saturday. Police said the two men took bags of cigarettes in the robbery.

"I want those in the neighborhood to know that they can rest a little easier tonight knowing that these two suspects are off the street, and we're going to do everything we can to work with the prosecutor's office to make certain that we have a strong case and that they're convicted of this crime," Spears said.

Indiana Department of Correction officials said Heyob was released from prison on Thursday after serving time for battery, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal gang activity.

In pictures posted on Heyob's Myspace.com and Facebook.com pages, he is seen holding guns, pointing them at other people and flashing gang signs.

Someone posting as Heyob on his Myspace.com page Monday night said, "locked up but me and lil B are INNOCENT we did not do (expletive) so all u (expletive) need to shut the (expletive) up asap."

Heyob was in police custody Monday night.

"Justice is being served, and it is being served swiftly and quickly," said Timothy Rico, Hough's son. "I'm glad that they're off the streets before anybody else gets hurt."

Police said Hough had worked at the store for 23 years and was well known in the community.

"She'll go out of her way for you. If you were short, she'd put that money in and tell you don't worry about paying her back," said VP customer Carole Stepp.

Police said the Village Pantry had been robbed 28 times since 2000.
