The crash happened just before 4 p.m. in the 6800 block of North Keystone Avenue, said Sgt. Paul Thompson.

Investigators said that David Winkler, 61, of Fishers, was leaving a gas station at 71st Street and Keystone Avenue when he pulled into the path of another car.

The driver of that vehicle -- Jennifer Loeb, 50, of Indianapolis -- managed to miss the truck, police said.

But Winkler then drove after her, cutting across several lanes of traffic and striking the rear of her car, flipping Loeb's vehicle, Thompson said.

Winkler then lost control of his truck and struck a pole before flipping over and landing in a creek, witnesses said.

Loeb was transported to Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

Winkler and a male passenger were transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where Winkler was upgraded from critical to serious condition, and his passenger was listed as stable.

A female passenger in the truck was pulled from the vehicle by two passersbys, but then left the scene of the crash, Thompson said.

Winkler, who was driving with a suspended license, is also suspected of driving while intoxicated, police said. A blood alcohol test was being conducted Tuesday evening.
