Police Seek Man After Woman Fatally Shot

Family Member Tries To Drive Victim To Help

A woman who was shot in a corn field in Benton County died after a family member drove her to Tippecanoe County to get help, Indiana State Police said.

Christine Craig, 40, of West Lafayette, was shot Friday while in her car along County Road 1050 East, just north of U.S. 52, said Sgt. Kim Riley.

Police said Craig was driving her vehicle and had pulled alongside Steven R. Farrell, 57, of Lafayette, who was driving his pickup truck.

A family member of Craig told police that that she had been in Farrell's vehicle and had gotten out to speak with Craig before Craig confronted Farrell.

After she returned to her car, Farrell allegedly walked over the Craig's car and shot her, Riley said.

Farrell then went back to his truck and left the scene, police said. Craig's family member drove her to a gas station in Otterbein, where she died.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Farrell, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 200 pounds. Police think he is driving a silver 2008 Toyota Tundra with an "In God We Trust" license plate No. ZM9064 and is armed with a handgun.

Police asked anyone with information about Farrell to call them. Details about the relationship between the people involved weren't released.
