Police: Man Threw Drugs From Truck During Chase

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. -- A Laurel man was arrested Friday after a police chase that spanned three counties.Troopers tried to stop Michael C. Cummins, 41, in southeast Rush County on a traffic violation just after 1:30 p.m., said state police Sgt. John Bowling.But police said Cummins wouldn't stop, and led troopers on a 20-minute chase through Rush, Decatur and Franklin counties with speeds ranging from 30 to 80 miles per hour.The chase ended behind a home on Short Road in Franklin County, when Cummins jumped out of his truck and tried to run, Bowling said.He was apprehended a short time later and arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, being a habitual traffic violator, operating a vehicle after his license had been suspended for life, resisting law enforcement and various traffic violations.Police said Cummins was seen throwing several bags from his truck during the chase, which were later determined to contain a controlled substance.
