Fishers Parks Superintendent Fired

The former parks superintendent for the town of Fishers was charged Friday with putting his son on the payroll.

An arrest warrant was issued for Randy Valentine on charges of ghost employment and theft, said Hamilton County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Wehmueller.

When the Parks Department merged with the Public Works Department in September, an employee notified authorities after learning that Valentine's son was receiving a paycheck, Wehmueller said.

Valentine stole about $35,000 between December 2007 and September 2009, said Town Manager Gary Huff.

Valentine was fired after the allegations surfaced.

Fishers Town Council President Scott Faultless said the town would seek full restitution of the missing funds.

"We are very disappointed that this employee violated the trust that had been given to him," Faultless said in a release.

He said the town had instituted stricter safeguards and was conducting additional audits and reports.
