A Delaware County man died Tuesday morning after he lost control of his truck on a slick roadway, police said.

The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. near Hoyt Avenue and Fuson Road in Muncie, said state police Sgt. Rod Russell.

Investigators said William C. McNutt, 78, lost control of his pickup truck on Hoyt Avenue and crashed into a steel post encased with concrete and then a tree before he was partially ejected from the vehicle.

McNutt was trapped under the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene, Russell said.

Hoyt Avenue was closed for two hours while emergency crews cleared the wreckage.

Russell said McNutt was not wearing a seat belt.
