Ex-Lawmaker Wants Refund For Frustrated Colts Fans

WIBC: Polian Did Not Walk Out On Radio Show

A former top Indianapolis lawmaker says disappointed Colts fans should get refunds after the Colts decided to pull the starters at Sunday's game, ending the team's chance at a perfect season.

Longtime former City-County Council President Beurt SerVaas told 6News' Norman Cox on Tuesday that he will petition the council to ask for a refund for all fans upset after attending Sunday's game against the New York Jets at Lucas Oil Stadium.

"They would be entitled," said SerVaas, who arranged for the Mayflower vans that moved the Colts to Indianapolis in 1984. "They came to see a game played honestly. It was not played honestly."

So far, no one on the council has agreed to sponsor legislation.

Some frustrated Colts fans are also taking aim at Colts President Bill Polian, who they contend walked out of his weekly radio show last night after things got heated.

Brad Wells, who blogs under the name Big Blue Shoes from New York, told 6News that he and many other out-of-town listeners mysteriously lost the last 10 minutes of the show's Internet feed.

He said it followed a segment in which Polian was getting testy with callers, and said that going 16-0 was a big priority with the fans, but not the team.

Emmis Communications said the entire show aired locally as normal, but that there was an Internet disruption that interrupted the national feed.

WIBC Program Director Kent Sterling denied rumors of a walk out.

"When programming becomes really compelling, the host's obligation is to continue despite the need to play commercials, and Bob Lamey and Bill Polian did that admirably," he said in a statement. "The result was that there were six minutes of commercials to play during the final seven minutes of the show. Bill remained in the studio until the show went off the air, and Bob used the final minute to wrap up the show. What happened last night is business as usual in radio."

Still, some fans said they feel Polian and the Colts coaching staff didn't think about the fans during Sunday's game.

"We spend a lot of money up here every year on tickets, on merchandise," said one season-ticker holder. "I just thought it was kind of a slap in the face to all the people that come up here and support the Colts week-in, week-out, through thick, through thin."
