Vandals Target Tires In North Side Neighborhood

North Side Residents Wake Up To Tires Slashed

Indianapolis police are looking for vandals who slashed the tires of more than a dozen cars in a north side neighborhood.

Residents in the 3900 blocks of North Pennsylvania and North New Jersey streets reported their tires were punctured Monday night or early Tuesday morning, 6News' Rick Hightower reported.

"It's extremely inconvenient, yeah, and just to stand out here in the cold and change it is just annoying," said Harry Rumer, who had tires on two cars damaged. "Probably just some random kid with a knife decided to slash it."

A couple of blocks east near 40th and New Jersey streets, four more cars, all parked in a row, had tires cut the same night.

Police said there's little residents can do to prevent the crime besides parking in a garage, or at least out of the street, in an effort to deter vandals.

"Feel free to call your neighbor if you see someone hanging around their car and you don't think they have any business there," said Sgt. Paul Thompson. "You might want to let them know, and they can make the determination to call police."

Resident Kerry Najle said she has always considered the area safe.

"We park our cars out on the street quite a bit for convenience sake, but hopefully it's some isolated incidents," she said. "We'll have the car in the garage tonight."
