Two people were killed in shootings in Indianapolis that were less than an hour apart Wednesday night.

The first shooting happened at Chuck's Mobile Home Park, at 5211 Massachusetts Ave., at about 8:45 p.m.

Police found a 49-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We did have a witness state that a black male wearing a black sweatshirt, black tank top and dark pants was last seen running from the crime scene," said Indianapolis police Sgt. Paul Thompson.

A more detailed description of that man wasn't available. Police don't know what prompted that shooting. The victim's name wasn't immediately released.

At 9:30 p.m., police were called to the 4600 block of Haverford Avenue in an unrelated shooting.

Investigators said Gerald Alexander Jr., 46, was shot in the head after he answered a knock at the front door of his home.

"We're still trying to determine if he actually identified the individual that was knocking at the door," Thompson said. "There was a brief conversation of somebody on the other side identifying themselves."

Alexander was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he died a short time later. Police have no information about any possible suspects or a motive. Two other people in the home were not hurt.

Police asked anyone with information in either case to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
