A woman who carried out a series of strong-armed robberies of older women on Indianapolis' east side was sentenced on Wednesday.

Laritha Martin, 26, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after she confessed to robbing three women ranging in age from 71 to 82 last May.

Police said Martin and Ashley Spraddling preyed on older women outside shops whom they observed shopping and using handicapped parking spots.

One of the victims suffered a heart attack after she was robbed.

Police said Martin and Spraddling were using the money stolen in the robberies to pay restitution for a previous robbery conviction.
