NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- A Henry County sheriff's deputy accused of driving drunk and crashing his truck into a house has been fired.Deputy Guadalupe "Wally" Trevino, 40, was arrested on charges of drunken driving and criminal recklessness after the incident in September while he was off-duty.After an internal review, the Henry County Merit Board ruled Wednesday night to dismiss him from his position with the sheriff's department.Trevino's attorney had lobbied to allow his client to remain with the department under supervision. The attorney for the department argued that Trevino already had two chances -- the first when he was hired despite a 1996 guilty plea to a charge of driving under the influence, and the second when he fired his pistol after drinking.Meanwhile, the Indiana State Police is investigating who leaked transcripts of interviews related to the case. The documents obtained by The Star Press of Muncie and The Courier-Times of New Castle show that two other off-duty officers were out drinking with Trevino that night.
