It was a blue Monday at Indianapolis International Airport, but for all the wrong reasons, as the Colts and dozens of disappointed fans returned home after Sunday's Super Bowl loss.

The New Orleans Saints topped Indianapolis 31-17 in a close match in Miami, leaving Colts fans dejected and in disbelief.

"It's a very sad morning, very quiet on our plane coming back today," Miriam Gordon told 6News' Jennifer Carmack.

"My friend and I compared it to your boyfriend breaking up with you," said Marisha Gupta. "We're all just heartbroken."

The team touched down in Indianapolis just after 4 p.m., filing off the plane looking disappointed and tired.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said Monday that the city still stands behind its team.

"The Colts represent Indianapolis well both on and off the field, and they certainly return home to a city full of proud fans," he said. "We are proud of our team, and proud of the exposure our great city has been given through this event."

Holding to a pre-Super Bowl bet with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Ballard said he would send shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo's Steakhouse, a platter from Judge's Barbecue, a case of pork tenderloin from Mug 'n Bun, red beans and rice from Papa Roux and cookies from Indy Anna's Catering.

Players went straight to the Colts complex to clear out their lockers, while some fans are already looking forward to next season.

"They're still awesome, they're still great," said Todd Morton. "They tried their hardest. It came down to one play, in my opinion."

Colts training camps begins in just 24 weeks.
