A winter storm that socked Indiana with a few inches of snow Tuesday morning is expected to return Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning with more snow.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for central Indiana through early Wednesday afternoon as a complex storm system rolls through the state.

Round one of the snowfall dumped about 3 inches of snow in the Indianapolis area and a little more north of the city. Greenwood also reported 3 inches of new snow Tuesday morning, as did Kokomo.

More snow is still expected continuing overnight into Wednesday as the low-pressure system wraps moisture back into the state.

Winds began to pick up Tuesday night, gusting to 35 mph at times, causing the snow to blow and drift.

A total snowfall accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is expected across much of central Indiana by Wednesday morning.

Higher amounts are expected in the northern part of Indiana, where up to 9 inches of snow could fall.

A little more snow could fall on Wednesday before the storm system leaves the area.

Temperatures will stay below normal for the rest of the week, with a few snow flurries expected on Friday.
