Hefty Increases Seen In Marion County Property Tax Bills
Bills Being Sent This Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marion County's spring property tax bills -- some with significant increases because of a statewide property reassessment -- are being sent in the mail this week.
Some older homes are seeing the greatest bill increases, said the county's chief deputy treasurer, Monty Combs.
"One up on Meridian (Street) went from $2,800 a year to $11,000. That's pretty dramatic," Combs said Monday.
Under the reassessment, property was assessed at fair market value rather than replacement cost. This means owners of older homes in well-kept neighborhoods generally are expected to see the greatest bill increases, because the valuation difference under the two assessment methods can be great for those homes.
Some homes on one street in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood saw $6,000 tax-bill increases, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported.
The bills are due July 10.
Property owners should contact their township assessor if they have questions or concerns related to their tax bills, Rinehart reported.
