CARMEL, Ind. -- The rumor mill seems to be even more rampant in the wake of a Wednesday news conference concerning a hazing incident involving the Carmel High School basketball team in which few details were revealed.Parents of team members met with teachers and administrators behind closed doors Wednesday night as the school tries to get a handle on the situation, 6News' Sarah Cornell reported. What was said during the meeting at the Carmel High School Freshman Center was not revealed, though it will almost certainly add more fodder to the rumor mill.School administrators were expected to provide some details about the Jan. 22 incident in which school officials previously said two freshman players were hazed by three seniors.School officials and the Carmel Police Department are releasing very little information about their investigation. No charges have been filed, but police said that charges as serious as battery, criminal confinement and criminal deviate conduct are being considered.Administrators and school officials are clearly being very careful and guarded about what they say as the investigation proceeds. Some residents want to know why no charges have been filed in the incident."If this happened to a team in the inner city, I can almost guarantee you, those boys would be in a juvenile home right now," said Susan Kaake. While some in the community are awaiting justice, others are reaching out to the victims."I am sorry that it happened to them, and I'm sorry for the parents," said Julie Cumbs. "I can't imagine the pain."While there is still no official word about what happened on the freshman school bus as the team returned from a game in Terre Haute, rumors are all over the map.“It's grown to be much larger and more violent than we ever imagined,” said Carmel senior Vincent Georgescu. Some students said details of the incident should stay within the school and that media questioning of the ordeal is unfair."We're huge in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball … and swimming," said senior Peter Loomis. "I feel like you guys attack us sometimes."The seniors who school officials said were involved in the incident were suspended.
